I remember the first cake I baked. My mother was working & my friend Liz was sleeping over. She & I decided to surprise my mom with a cake. I pulled the cake mix out of the cabinet, and we followed the instructions to the letter. We poured the batter into the cake pan, making sure to fill it to the top so that the top would be nice and smooth. (You see where this is going, don’t you?) It wasn’t pretty. We didn’t realize that it would rise! Thankfully, my dad took pity on us and cleaned the oven of all the overflowed cake.

You have to start over if you spill some? As if, they don’t even scrape the bowls well …
