One day, many years ago I was walking my old boy Hogan past a lake he always enjoyed splashing in. As this was an artificial lake, it was being drained for whatever purpose but Hogan didn’t care and ran to the waters edge, and promptly got stuck in the thick mud, and I mean stuck. He looked back at me with the most pathetic eyes and what could I do? I had no time to call for help so I trudged through the mud with every step being sucked to the extreme until I got to my boy and pulled him out. Man, I tell you we were both encased in mud, my car got filled with mud until we got home and hosed off.Why am I telling you this? The followers of this strip seem to be all dog lovers/sympathisers and I just wanted to share an episode of my journey with Hogan.I would have done anything for that dog. Miss you, boy.
Reminds me of a winter back in my youth as a newly-married woman. My then-husband and I had to hike a distance from home though a deep snowfall to get car parts. We took my little terrier with us, thinking it would be a fun hike. We got about half-way there when I saw blood on the snow. Her poor little paws just weren’t up to it. So, up she comes into my arms and off I go back home with her while he finishes our mission. Lesson learned!
Now go back and get the treasure and buy a set, or two, of cold/wet weather booties for Louie. That’s the only way our doggos made it through the last few San Francisco, now Vancouver Island, winters. Makes life easier for them and clean up easier for us.

Happy Monday, but crew? I’m going back for the loot.

Nate could have carried Louie on his shoulders and still have had the treasure chest. Or is that a stretch?

I am thinking Nate is strong enough to have carried the dog and the treasure

Ice in paws, not a problem to fix. Two minutes at most. Then you get the treasure, too.

Boy, somebody got to have a long talk with these pirates. The way Jed Clampett used to say he had to do to Jethro.

should have put a marker where you put the treasure chest and then go back to get it after getting Louie out of the nasty weather.
