Stairs provide good aerobics without having to go to the gym. When I moved to a two story, it was a chore to go up and down, took a year before my knees didn’t complain and now not a problem.
I got into the habit of always taking stairs unless my destination was above the 4th floor. Good exercise, helped my bad back and bad knees, and, honestly, elevators have always made me queasy. I even lived in a 3rd floor walk-up for a couple years that was a short 2 blocks from work!
It was habit, I was fine with it – then I woke up dizzy, which turned out to be chronic, permanent vertigo, the most annoying disability on record.
For some reason, no one wants me to climb stairs any more, or ladders, or chairs (to change lightbulbs). It’s like, just because I lose my balance a dozen times or more per hour, I’m helpless!
Yes, I know I’m weird. But I still HATE elevators.
Oh, and if anyone tries to tell you that taking the stairs will get you thin – NO. Not unless you stick to a sensible diet as well.
And Amanda, we could make it a 2-woman play! “I hate stairs!” “I hate elevators!”

My best friend in GF lived on like the 2nd or 3rd floor. Why doesn’t ND believe in elevators?

I use to live on the second floor, didn’t mind the stairs until I had to bring groceries in!

You would have a sympathetic audience. We had a two-story house for many years………couldn’t handle it today.

Walking stairs everyday would help you get below 300.

I use stairs whenever I can. I also try to walk at least a mile a day. It’s better exercise than spending money in a gym.
