Willfully ignorant morons taking advantage of an antiquated law that couldn’t possibly have predicted the destructive capability of modern weaponry, baby! It’s an ugly (deadly, tragic, etc.) thing!
So far, keeping weapons out of their hands has worked. And there’s no way in the world to decide whether it was necessary or just a precaution. One of the things about this sort of thing is that you don’t get a chance to see how other scenarios would play out. Anybody who thinks otherwise isn’t fully loaded.
Prosecutors’ fears are based on past experience and continued threats from some. Not all gun-owners are easily set off, but there are those who think that they are more important, and more pillaged than others.
It’s sad how many people worship their .38, .357, and .44 caliber Penis Extensions above anything else.
Of course, I’ve heard that same tired old “The Government is coming to take your guns away” line of B.S. for over 50 YEARS, and it STILL hasn’t happened! I first heard it during the Student protests against Vietnam back in the late 60’s, and I’ve heard it EVERY YEAR since.
The guys that were planning on “Opening Fire” at the rally were arrested by the FBI.
Don’t be so quick to claim the peacefulness of the protest. When a few thousand people carry semi automatic weapons it is a fine line between peaceful protest and mass murder.
One guy in Vegas killed 51 and wounded 400.
What do you think three guys could have done? At close range no less?
No violence? Simply luck and good law enforcement. A violent neo-Nazi group, the Base, was definitely planning violence at the event. Link: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/patrick-mathews-base-violent-revolution-1.5435323 The CBC was following the story because a Canadian was involved. Was this even reported on in the States?
22,000 heavily armed people show up for a demonstration and not only is there no violence, but no laws broken, no confrontations, and they even clean up after themselves. Golly, those 2nd Amendment types are scary, aren’t they? Be honest – where would you feel safer – at a rally like the one in Virginia, or an Antifa rally?
If you have to act crazy and threaten people and strap guns all over your self in between your Nazi symbols because of minor changes in the gun law, maybe you are not mature enough or responsible enough or sane enough to own a gun.
The white supremacists that made threats were arrested. That and a huge law enforcement presence may have helped put people on both sides in their place.

Free Speech and the Right of Assembly.. gone awry. A nation run by lunatics can not survive for long.

I have found those who hide behind the word “honor” are often lacking in such. Not unlike many who claim to be Christian.

Also the FBI took out 3 of the right wing extremists from the group before the rally.
They planned to kill another member of The Base, which is what they call themselves.
