I still pull for my hometown Astros but if they aren’t involved, l’ve been a Yankees fan for some odd reason since before Houston had a major league team.
The real reason for the harshness of the punishment – the Gulf Coast doesn’t count as a “coastal market” in MLB, so teams from there cannot be allowed to gain “elite” status.
Not a Yankees fan by any means (I’m on the West Coast – Giants and Mariners! – never liked the Dodgers) but I still like to see the Yankees in the World Series, AS LONG AS THEY LOSE! A tradition thing, I suppose (I’m still upset about the Yankees beating the Giants in 7 games in the 1962 World Series!).
