Your primary task in life is to determine what your own meaning should be. Most people leave this up to others that are just looking for cannon fodder.

It seems for most cat owners the purpose of life is to keep the cat happy.

There is as much or as little meaning in life as you wish to look for.

Such maniacal egoism, imagining that a naturally evolved accidental lifeform magically somehow acquires “meaning” in the universe. Why do you need some external meaning? Your life is less than a blink. Your species is less than a blink. Your world is less than a blink. Only your inability to discern vast time fools you into imagined significance.

But it’s still the only came in town, and if you give up your attachments to other times and worry only about the present, you will always know the right thing to do, without having to justify it with “meaning.”

We’re sort of wired that way; humans are pattern- and meaning-seeking animals. Maybe something about survival value of those behaviors.

We have the capacity to attribute meaning even in places beyond the biological and Evolutionary. We live to survive and reproduce. Anything else is of our own making.
