Had a neighbor like that once. Had zoysia grass and even in the summer you cold see the emergence of a weed from across the street. He had fits if a leaf landed on his lawn. Across the street, we had 17 old oak trees. I just ignored his ‘polite’ comments and enjoyed the shade and the wildflowers in the back yard.

Having mower blades set no lower than two and half inches reduces the growth of weeds. Three and a half is fine for many types of grass. The grass is healthier if not scalped.

Water deep and cut high for healthiest grass. My neighbor has a service that scalps their lawn (and has transported kikuyu seeds which have taken over their once sodded yard) and they have to water it daily (15 min at a time with in-ground sprinklers on a timer.) to keep it green. I cut mine high and water once every two weeks using an Andrews sprinkler hose which provides a gentle rain. My lawn (Bermuda grass) looks better than his.
