For those who didn’t see my post on Toles:

“Catastrophic” is the term I keep seeing. And just looking at the pictures is shocking enough.

The number of hectares burned in New South Wales ALONE, just since July 1, are over four times_ the area of the Amazon 2019 fires (which have already had a substantial and scary impact on our environment), and _five times that of the 2018 California fires).

Every time a tree burns, more CO₂ enters the atmosphere, causing the climate to become that much more energetic and unstable, which will very likely lead to more trees burning. This is what’s known as a “positive feedback loop” and when it happens in machines, they typically shake themselves apart (at best).

I know I’m fortunate to still be alive at my age, but in some ways, it’s looking like a great idea to not live to see the consequences of all this. Sadly.
