Anyone know the connection between “triple Manhattan” and “72”? Is there some connection between Manhattan and 24?

From Wikipedia- "A common account states that Minuit purchased Manhattan for $24 worth of trinkets. A letter written by Dutch merchant Peter Schaghen to directors of the Dutch East India Company stated that Manhattan was purchased for “60 guilders worth of trade”, an amount worth approximately $1,050 in 2015 dollars."

On January 18, 1970 60 NLG (Dutch Guldens) were around 17 USD. So a tripple Manhattan should have cost somewhat around 51 USD.
