The neighborhood network is free but your HOA dues are going up.

Typically nothing good comes from getting recruited with “free” stuff….

Where? Even here in a rural area like where we are now, there’s wifi (not very good wifi here)

There’s a website called “Nextdoor” which links neighbors and neighborhoods with each other. It’s the modern version of sharing gossip over the fence, except you don’t physically interact with any actual humans.

My wife and I have joined the Nexdoor.com group for our area. They do take local ads (real estate and suchlike) to pay the bills – nothing gaudy or pushy. I’ve seen posts for lost animals, trying to find a service/repair company and so on. It does end up being a bit like an old backyard fence network with no personal gossip. It looks like it covers about 3 square miles in a sub-rural area.

I’ll keep my own private online provider.

There’s nothing new here. This is simply the old time party-line that the gossips have been missing for quite some time now.

If it’s free it’s not private. If it’s private it isn’t free.

Just another way for whiners to complain and try to tell you how to live your life

We also have joined NextDoor. It’s great for a lot of things, and if you don’t like a particular line of correspondence you can easily prevent it from appearing on your link. We’ve sold and given away items of no further use to us, have helped find lost dogs, and joined the group of people on the link who are giving treats to the kids at Halloween. It is indeed like having a good conversation with my neighbors as it’s hard for me due to an inconvenient crumby ankle.
