Teddy Bears were huge in 1908, not long after the canned hunt where Teddy declined the honor or potting a tied-down cub. I found out that “Teddy Bears’ Picnic” comes from then, though the lyrics weren’t added until decades later.
I listen sometimes to a 78 side of the piece from then, and it’s interesting that right where the line “At six o’clock, their mommies and daddies…” would be, there are six strokes of a large bell. Perhaps that inspired the lyricist.
