Nice sentiment, but the kid’s dialogue in the second panel seems unnecessarily informative.

When I was a kid I was not allowed to call my cousins who lived in Queens, NY when we lived in the next county – Nassau as it was too expensive. I could not call into a NYC radio station I listened to for their contests – too expensive. In college I lived at home and had a friend who lived in the dorms and went home summers to her parent’s house in the next county east of us as it was too expensive.

I finished college, went to grad school, married my college boyfriend. My friend from college and I remained (and still remain) in touch. We would send letters and cards for our birthdays and anniversaries. She and her husband met at college in Virginia and settled there. Of course, no phone calls – VA is so far away. One year I forgot to mail her a card – before Internet became ubiquitous. My husband said to me – “call her and tell her Happy Birthday.” The though of doing so was so strange to me that he to talk me into doing so.
