I’d like to know what was it Pearl liked about Earl (aside from deciding to name their kids Merle and Veryl and whatever else rhymed with their names).

But didn’t Earl originally go out with Opal, and that’s how Pearl met him?

…and he still doesn’t…but then, whom among us does?

Didn’t then, doesn’t now…the more the things change, the more they remain the same…

Crane has written that he based them on his own in-laws. When he married their daughter, he was impressed with how they simultaneously were devoted to each other and picked on each constantly. Little insulting remarks was simply their way of communicating. He says he considered them a happily married couple.

There is an art to look like you are listening to someone’s every word, and make them believe you are!

Does it matter?

Earl probably forgot the two words that mean a long lasting marriage: “Yes Dear”

I thought she would say “his head of thick hair”. Well, that would have worked out as well in the long run as his listening.

Opal snatched Earl from her sister, the one sitting in the chair up there,,he’s been a happy man ever since ! lmaoooooooooooo and having an “Earl” for a bro-in-law is awesome,, (miss you Daddy Earl ! )

Earl was probably fascinated with Opal’s attributes.
