Don’t you wish the internet would adopt that.

    Yes. Video ads are evil.

Sadly, her arthritis is so bad it takes her 10 seconds to turn the page.

I miss the pre-Internet morning newspaper routine. First thing I read was the comics then I did the crossword puzzle. Always had a pen handy when I got the paper.

Our local paper’s web site sucks, part of the reason we still get the printed version … and the puzzles !

Our paper went to 3 days a week- what a joke and at least 1-2 x’s a month the printers were down so you either got a free paper the next delivery or your subscription was extended by that edition. What a joke. We stopped buying it years ago. We refuse to subscribe to their online edition. It lacks any real journalistic value/reporting. Basically it was cut & paste from the AP or Reuters or whoever. Too many of the articles were written so poorly that you thought they were written by kindergartners.

There was a series of 70’s themed ads for something (see? I can’t remember,) and the one character said “Hurry up! We’ve only got 5 seconds before they can click away!”

When I bought magazines, I used to rip out any page that was all ads on both sides. Then I’d settle down to read the thing.

Reading a book is a good way to skip any ads whatsoever (just finished Julie Andrew’s first of 3 autobiographies. Love it and can’t wait to read #2 while waiting for her and her daughter to work on #3).

In one of Robert Heinlein’s books, I believe it was “Between Planets,” there is a scene in which the protagonist is in a taxi that has a loud screen shouting ads continuously (he bribes the driver to mute it, but the screen still flashes the ads). When I first read this as a teenager, I thought how strange that people would think that such obnoxious, intrusive advertising could be good for business. And I still wonder why.

Some ads have a skip option arrow, but not many.
