People aren’t suppose to think for themselves. They are only suppose to think about what a few people who want power over them to think. Now, Bear will wake Molly up every time she goes to sleep.
This prayer was written when child mortality was high, and it was feared they wouldn’t go to heaven if they didn’t pray this. context is everything. I believe also that people felt evil was near them at night, and they needed protection.

They used to have us say that prayer when we were little tykes. I remember asking about that part too.
