Most of the people at work use their personal days just to get a day off through the year, then they don’t have any left for when they do get sick

I once worked at a place that insisted you had to have a doctors note to prove that you were sick and why you missed work. If you were well enough to use the phone to call in sick you were well enough to make it into work, regardless of spreading germs around the office, plus the coughing, sneezing and constant blowing your noise disrupting other co-workers. Not many people stayed long at that company and neither did I.

Probably by not penalizing them for calling in sick. But the US has some of the most draconian business practices and policies regarding sick leave.

People that take “advantage” of a system often lead to “rules” that need to be obeyed. However, with HIPPA and patient confidentiality guidelines, a doctor’s note should not ever be required.

Seriously? We are allotted sick time, but are not supposed to use it. I had the flu so bad, I could not get out of bed without puking. If you are out for 3 days, they want a doctor’s note and make you apply for a leave of absence. No one wanted to come near me for fear of catching it. Somehow, i had to drive myself to the walk-in clinic — only managed that cuz i was so freaking angry. You are punished for being out sick. I rarely call out sick and often get called in to work when others call out, but that counts for nothing. How many stories do you hear about people being fired for being out sick with the flu?

We had a standing order in our office. If you’re sick, go home. If you’re home and sick, stay at home. And if you’ve made yourself too irreplaceable to stay home, it’s time to replace you while there’s still time.

I got sick untold times because people showed up to work sick and I wound up ill. Then I had to use my precious sick days! Now I’m retired and stay away from sick people like the plague.

Clowns like that would probably be happy to stay at home if they didn’t need the money to pay the rent and buy food and stuff like that. Who the hell WANTS to go to work feeling sick?

Going to the emergency room is almost a guarantee of coming away with something you didn’t have when you went there. What bothers me is people who show up with the whole family in tow so they can spread whatever to the general populace.

Most people have to go to work when they are sick otherwise they will be docked. According to statistics a lot of people are two weeks worth of pay away from being on the streets, if they were to lose their jobs. The majority of people do live above their means.

Easy. Allow them paid sick days.

Give them sick days without the need for a doctor’s note and let them work from home if they’re well enough to function but still contagious.
