Back in the 70s it was explained that Supes was unknowingly hypnotizing people into not beleiving Clark could be him. The Kryptonian lens in his glasses helped him do it when he looked you in the eyes. Once, someone was approaching him (when he was Clark) from behind. Their thought was about how big this guy looked, UNTILL Clark turned to look at them. Then they were confused how they thought such a wimpy guy was a big dude.
