Greta Thunberg is the same age Malala Yousafzai was when she won a Nobel Peace Prize. She is the same age as Jeanne d’Arc (Joan of Arc) when she began her heroic movement to save France.
This old geezer is beginning to think that the way to save the world is to turn it over to a few carefully-selected sixteen-year-old teenage girls.
MAKE AMERICA GRETA AGAIN — now THAT’s a “MAGA” I could get behind!
Teens (and young adults) are the one group of humans from which almost all real change springs. I’m totally in favor of young people stepping up their game!
I’m sure you’re all familiar with the tale of Lysistrata. Maybe teens could withhold tech support from the old fogies until they change their views on global warming . . .
Left to their own devices, many young people would direct great energy to curing the ailments being mishandled by what passes for the adult segment. Yes, they would also make some major mistakes, as do all who strive, but one could not claim they were self-serving or profit oriented. Wild fires level forests. The fires of youth level societal barriers. Greta Thunberg and Malala Yousafzai offer great hope for great change. I wish them great success.
Watching and listening to Greta Thunberg was incredibly moving and almost heart-breaking. She was confident, forceful, and coherent. And so far, this young lady hasn’t had to have anyone appear and stumblingly or fumblingly explain to us what she really meant. The only question now is whether anyone will have listened?
While I completely believe that climate change must be addressed ASAP, I find that children like Greta are obviously speaking someone else’s prepared words for greater effect. I think it does harm to the movement.
When the war in Vietnam kept escalating, the college age youth, who were to be fed into that never-ending carnage, became more critical and vocal in their opposition to it. Rallies, marches, sit-ins etc. Are today’s youth reading about what scientists are warning them about? Rapidly changing climatic patterns, pollution of the oceans, the rapidly melting glaciers and polar ice caps, the toxins being released into the air every day? Students: YOU HAVE TO ORGANIZE AND ACT YOURSELVES! Don’t rely on the older generations to do it for you!

I remember the tree-hugging hippies of my era. What ever happened to them? Did they go extinct or did they “sell out to the man?”

Wow…this should increase book sales for Al Gore.
