I’m all for reducing regulations but it needs to be done with a scalpel, not a flamethrower or sledge hammer. So far, the administration has used all of the above.

He is stupid to think he can effect gas mileage on a short term basis. The manufactureres of both fuel and automobiles plan in decades. They do not develope and install technologies into their vehicles on a month to month basis or especially revert to an earlier technology once the expense of developing newer technologies has begun to be baked into the product. But again, Hump’s breadth of stupidity has not yet been totally exposed.

Before Congress made catalytic converters mandatory, all three CEOs of American car manufacturers testified that such a law would destroy the car industry.

Meanwhile, Japanese car manufacturers asked if we could please send them a copy of the requirements so they could adapt their engine designs to them.

    .

Republicans hate all regulations, even those that have proved beneficial to everyone.

Every time his name is mentioned, it is accompanied by some awful thing he has done. His name is never linked to anything good. It’s disgusting, as is anyone who supports him.

It’s at least “also” and possible “mostly” about reducing states rights, part of the process the GOP is using to turn us into a dictatorship.

Prejudiced Trump hates California because he will never get any Electoral College votes form them.

People in California are not going to buy crappy mileage cars, so suck it, automakers, if you do what he wants. My California 96 Nissan pickup still passes the smog test and gets 28 miles to the gallon. When it finally dies, I expect to find something either electric or at least 50 mpg

I wonder what Trump’s “conservative” base thinks of his rejecting their “states rights” mantra/principle.

Actually, I don’t wonder at all. They only believe that it applies to “their” states, and California isn’t “theirs”.

Trump continues on his four year personal vendetta tour on any person, state, company or country that fails to embrace the self appointed “chosen one”. Note to all the MAGA Republicons. What goes around comes around.

Post WW II, the auto and trucking industries fought mass transit, going along with the interstate highway system, removing train track and operations, and inner city mass rail (like red cars in LA). And oil companies joined in to put more fuel INefficient vehicles on the road, fighting things like Corvair, Falcon, Tempest, and other fuel efficient vehicles- hated VWs as the country went nuts for the fuel efficient bug.
