If this were true, wages wouldn’t suck.

To be to scale those buns would have to be one third that long. Three to equal one real job.

Yep. How many of thos jobs pay enough to provide a basic food on the table and a roof over one’s head in a forty hour week? For that matter, how many of them offer a forty hour week?

It is obvious what the problem is. The jobs being offered are not paying enough to attract workers. If businesses offered enough money they would find workers. That is how capitalism and supply and demand works. But businesses have decided that they will not pay more. It is the same thing as if GM decided that the would only sell their cars for $100,000. Nobody would buy them. Offer a low wage and nobody will take the job. Offer a high enough wage and workers would even leave a lower paying job to take it.

But businesses do NOT want to think like that.

    Workers of the world, UNITE!

You hold the key to our prosperity. Not the bankers, not the lawyers, not the real estate managers. You are the key.

And they treat you like crap, paying you slave wages and no benefits.

    Without you there is nothing.

Why are you willing to work for next to nothing? Why are you willing to sell your labor cheaply?

Because they scare you. You let them intimidate you. You let them convince you that you are ignorant, weak, stupid and alone.

    What should you do?

Unite! Join a labor organization. Demand that your political party support YOUR needs and beliefs, and not some made up elitist agenda.

Don’t let them fool you. This is NOT communism, or socialism. This is AMERICA. Fifty states united to make one strong nation that no one can, beg your pardon, F*CK with.

What works with countries and states works with people as well.

Good grief folks, THEY ARE NOT AFRAID OF YOUR GUNS!

What they are afraid of is us getting smart, uniting and DEMANDING value for our labor.

When there are more jobs than folks to fill them, you are a valuable resource. Act like it!

Sadly the buns expect ‘white’ hot dogs. Many ‘brown’ hot dogs are left at the border.

The buns would be quickly whisked away to another table (nation) if the company owner could make more profit.

But for gosh sakes, don’t bring in any immigrants to fill those jobs. That would change the colour of the country.

Varvel, if there are so many jobs, WHY does Trump import Haitians to work at Mar-a-lago?

Why have Trump businesses employed ILLEGALS for over a decade?

Why do Trump Disciples have to lie about EVERY issue?

Three to four jobs per worker and still not enough to live on.

I have 3 Nephews from 35 to 27 not one job between them never worked for more than a few months at any job. They all have had their opportunity at Apprenticeships but drug tests prevent that along with travel makes it TO HARD. Each gets a Check of some sort from Government just enough to keep the Cable TV on and the Pipe full.

Republican Varvel is always trying to shill for Trump one way or another. Trump’s first thirty months in office doesn’t compare to the job growth in Obama’s last 30 months. And that was before Trump’s job numbers were revised downward by a half million.

Varvell, as always, is illustrating the right wing agenda’s party line. If this metaphor were true then we’d see an increase in wages, but we don’t. If this were true, we’d see a decline in the working poor, but we don’t. If this were true, middle class tax payers would be happy, but they aren’t. The truth is always more complex than even a picture (which equals 1000 words, right?) but a more reasonable picture would show a lot of full size hot dogs and a lot of teeny tiny buns.

The big problem is the lack of trained workers. There are hundreds of thousands of skilled blue collar jobs out there. Welding, machine shop work, etc, etc, etc. But we have no trade schools anymore. America was brainwashed into the absurd idea that everyone needs a degree to succeed in life.

My route to work is a 90 minute drive from WI into IL. Between my home and my office there are dozens, probably hundreds of small and mid sized manufacturing companies. National concerns like Generac down to small custom shops with 5000-10,000 sq ft buildings. For the last 2-3 years there are Help Wanted signs out. All sorts of jobs listed on the signs. With pay scale listed.

Even the simplest unskilled piecework jobs are advertised at $14-$16 plus benefits. Full time entry level, semi-skilled and skilled labor positions. Some with pay in the $40-$50 range. Machinists, mold makers, stuff like that. The trailer dealers are always looking for skilled welders and mechanics.

Etc, etc, etc. But we don’t have tech schools anymore. When I was a kid, the Albert Grannis Lane Technical High School in Chicago was one of the best BLUE COLLAR tech schools in the country. It remained such for 80 plus years, offering hands on training in skilled trades of all types. In the 80’s and 90’s the emphasis shifted away for the trades. It remains a premier school to this day, but the current name says it all.

Lane Technical College Prep High School https://lanetech.org/

This 40 year trend has taken place all over the US, much to our detriment.
