That’s a pretty old song. I’m surprised Annie is familiar with it. Now that song is gonna get stuck in my head.

Back to card games from yesterday – I have played Mile Borne too. I even have that and Racko and a couple other on my computer. I like playing Racko with the computer or real people. I remember when I played Mile Borne with my sister, Martha, and her husband, Jim, and we sort of ganged up on him so he would lose. Sisters gotta stick together, you know. :)

I remember 2 other card games I played in high school. You play them with a regular deck of cards and the games are just for 2 players. One is called “Spit” (no, it does not involve actual spitting) and the other is called “Speed”, but I have absolutely no recollection how to play either game. I know I have it written down someplace (because I knew I would eventually forget how to play them), but I don’t remember where I have the directions written down.

    Today is:

    Shooting Star Day

    National Waffle Day

    National Maryland Day

National Peach Pie Day. So many dessert days! I wonder how many fruit & vegetable days there are (excluding those that put fruits in pies, cakes and other desserts)

It’s also the last day of my vacation :( .I had a great vacation. I got a lot of relaxing done, I enjoyed a couple rounds of mini golf, I read a few books and I even did some house painting. I didn’t finish the painting and I won’t finish tomorrow either, but at least I got some done. I’ve run out of my expensive oil-based paint primer, which a professional painter told me I should use because it penetrates the old wood better. (This old house doesn’t hold paint well and the latex primers I’ve been using just are not doing the job. I hope this oil-based stuff works better. It sure costs enough!). I’ll need at least one more gallon of that stuff yet. I might not finish one section because of the darn yellow jackets. I was scraping off the old paint in the front of the house – 3 or 4 steps up on my stepladder when the yellow jackets started flying out at me – at least 6 or 7 of them. I’m amazed I didn’t get stung! I did not see their nest until I was practically hitting it with my scraper. Needless to say, I scrammed off that ladder fast and left the area. Then after dark, I sprayed the nest with wasp spray, then used the hose to knock the nest down. But the darn things started a new nest which I found while starting to put on the primer. The new nest got the same treatment – Raid, then a blast from the hose, but I’m a little worried I haven’t seen the last of those buggers, so maybe I’ll leave that little part unpainted a while longer.

Time for me to go to bed. I just heard the paper carrier deliver my newspaper. Can you believe my newspaper gets here at 3:15 in morning? Sometimes even a few minutes before that.

Graham – new strips, old strips – I’ll take any TC strip you want to put on here. I AM waiting for new UFO strips, though. Maybe not new as in a recent date, but new to me. The last one I saw was on June 26

They haven’t a clue. Annie’s grandmother must have quite a record collection.

My new counters were installed, my plumbing was fixed and today the tiling company came to measure my kitchen walls. Once the backsplash is up, I will go to my local animal shelter. Hopefully by early October.

Aren’t kitties just the bestest critters for ignoring a girl??? Second only to children and husbands, of course.

Our local paper gets delivered around 5AM. I used to have to fetch it from the street, at least now they have the decency to drop it on our sidewalk.

Don’t worry , Annie, I bet Oliver would listen to you. On another note, saw a sheep while out walking today. For the past few months, there’s been this feral sheep running around the neighborhood. I don’t know where it came from, but I suspect someone must have dumped it off. It’s wary of humans, but seems to enjoy hanging out with a goat that belongs to one of my neighbors.

Perhaps the kitties would listen to Annie if she quoted Cat Stevens.
