THIS is the G.O.P. we NEED. From a speech by REPUBLICAN Senator Daniel J. Morrell of Pennsylvania, in Congress in 1866:In his first speech in Congress Mr. Morrell uttered the following plea for labor: “The American workingman must live in a house, not a hut; he must wear decent clothes and eat wholesome and nourishing food. He is an integral part of the municipality, the State, and the Nation; subject to no fetters of class or caste; neither pauper, nor peasant, nor serf, but a free American citizen. He has the ballot, and if it were possible it would be dangerous to degrade him. The country stands pledged to give him education, political power, and a higher form of life than foreign nations accord their laborers, and he must be sustained by higher rates of wages than those of Europe. Our industries operated by American citizens must be freed from foreign interference and organized into a distinct American system, which will exact some temporary sacrifices but result in general prosperity and true national independence. In maintaining diversified industries we utilize every talent, provide a field for every capacity, and bind together the whole people in mutual dependence and support, assuring the strength and security of our Republic.”
Robert, if the GOP could nominate Trump, the GOP is no longer truly conservative (really, never has been)…………just right-wing populist…………..long live worthy conservatism…………………..wherever it might be………….I’ve never seen it.
The GOP has been on the endangered list for some time.. it is only by cheating.. lying.. padding the courts and manipulating the system that they manage to hang on.
Actually I would be sorry to see the real Republican party go. They served as a sort of anchor that prevented progress— and sometimes having an anchor to make you think about whether what you are planning is the best plan isn’t a bad thing. They pointed out some valid arguments, because they really wanted everything Democratic to fail. Having them do that made the plans better, and actually made progress slower but surer. That was the old GOP— the ones who had the wrong ideas, but at least had ideas. I don’t know what the heck created the mess they are in now, but I respected the old GOP. This one needs to be put out of it’s misery.
If only that were true. Unfortunately, the evidence – the popularity of FOX News, Mitch McConnell’s tenure, the elections of both W and Trump and a partisan Supreme Court majority, say no.
Sorry guys. Anyone that thinks the the GOP is in risk for going extinct doesn’t live in the south. and has underestimate the reach of Fox ( i can’t bring myself to call it news). These people would vote for Vladimir Putin before they wold consider a moderate Democrat.
Um, the first two, dumbo. There are laws protecting people, so stuff it. We have an obligation to ensure these species live on. Why must humans DESTROY everything. I will continue to quote Agent Smith when it feels applicable; “Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment; but you humans do not. Instead you multiply, and multiply, until every resource is consumed. … There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern… a virus.” True story…

The GOP ceased being the “Party of Lincoln” in 1877. They chose power over principle.

For selling its soul and blindly following a lying hypocritical racist sexist RINO, they’ve dug a hole rivalling the Grand Canyon.

“Fiscal Conservatism” and “Small Government” are the “Thoughts” and “Prayers” of the conservative Republican Party. No substance or actual meaning.

When one considers that 75% of those that consider themselves GOPers are over age 55 (Pew Research), nature will resolve the GOP issue.
