The first action of the Trump presidency and his republican congress, was to overturn as much of the Obama legacy as possible, including restrictions on people with diagnosed mental problems getting guns…. nothing will happen until Trump and McConnell are history.
I think all intelligent citizens of the United States can now agree that, as long as Republicans control ANYTHING, the gun lobby will not allow ANY meaningful legislation to be passed.
There are several possible scenarios available to the G.O.P., but I believe the most likely (one they’ve employed many times in the past), is to present a bill to the Senate on some facet of “gun control” that at least vaguely resembles intelligent legislation, but the legislation presented has SOMETHING within its wording (known as a "poison Pill) that flies in the face of the democratic intent; something that Democrats CANNOT agree to (Ken Dilanian alluded to a national “Concealed/Carry” law possibly being added to the mix – we don’t know yet but I can guarantee it will be something that Democrats will reject, thereby allowing Republicans to say, “See, Democrats don’t REALLY want to put a ‘check’ on guns – it’s ALL political posturing!”
The Republican Senate won’t pass any legislation that flies in the face of their principal supporter, the National Rifle Association – the N.R.A. doesn’t want anything to go forward that contradicts the goals of its principal supporter, the Russian G.R.U. and F.S.B. – and THEY wish to follow the dictates of THEIR master, Vladimir Putin, who ALSO happens to be the handler for the Russian Asset on the White House.
Moscow Mitch is sitting on a bill even as he postures his “support” to the president’s “new ideas.” But since this bill passed the House, the Democrat controlled House, it’s buried. Instead, he wants a “bi-partisan” bill and has instructed AAP (All Aryan Party formerly known as the GOP) Congresspersons to mull over some “sensible” solutions. In short, “Stall until another deflection pops up.”
Maybe WE can get things started. If any of YOUR senators or representatives took any money from the NRA, VOTE AGAINST HIM/HER next election! Do not stop to consider the jobs or any contracts he/she brings to your state, VOTE THEM OUT! ALL OF THEM!!
But the NRA leadership is in the pockets of the gun manufacturers, and so are the members of Congress voting against this very basic, commonsense law that does NOTHING to block Second Amendment rights.
The idea behind elections was that revolution could be done without bloodshed.
I hope that’s still possible, even if unlikely. I encourage you all to not just vote, but actually Throw the Bastards Out! in 2020. Unfortunately, it’s not too soon for those of us who live in GOP-controlled states to ensure that your individual right to vote hasn’t been stolen away. And it is in those states that it is most important that you do so: The GOP would like nothing better than to sweep away any semblance of equal rights while re-“electing” the same psychopaths who are currently preventing anything that might ameliorate the pain.
The BIG LIE at work here is that there is any proof whatsoever that preventing an ex-con from legally owning a firearm has prevented a single crime, much less a murder. “Liberal” douchebags simply want to circumvent the Constitution because they haven’t the will to make an effort to amend it.
Congress needs to protect the people and stop name blaming and stalling gun reforms bills. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/congress-has-110-gun-bills-on-the-table-heres-where-they-stand .
No Trump Disciple comments about background checks?
Also it’s good to remember that background check is not a magic bullet. For one thing, it will be watered down in the Senate to the point of being ineffective. Then, Republicans will claim it is ineffective.
And, every clause in the legislation will be fought by a battalion of GOP/NRA lawyers and will go to the Republican Supreme Court.
And, it will likely NOT address gun shows, private sales, etc.

Agree. Too bad McConnell didn’t have the type of injury that would render him unable to communicate for 15 or 16 months.

While a nice idea, background checks can only stop someone who already has a record from getting a weapon.

Background checks, sales records kept permanently(stops illegal transfers), and licensing just like my CCP, for ALL firearms in FEDERAL law.
