I once had to give my huge male cat eye drops, at a time when I was alone in the house with no help. So I thought bribing him with treats after wrestling the eye drops into him on top of the bathroom sink counter was a good idea.
Nope. For months afterward, he’d jump up onto the counter thinking this was a good way to get a treat. He associated the treats with the counter, not the eye drops.

It’s been like that for me and Sweetheart for quite some time. If i get a treat, so does she.
