The US military’s been doing something much like this since before there was an Internet. If someone faces charges and his bosses really really REALLY want them gone, a generic “sodomy” charge is tacked on. It isn’t what it sounds like; it’s literally a catch-all charge. Did you litter? Sodomy! Yell at a dog? Sodomy! But it does SOUND horrible, doesn’t it? Like the sort of thing you’d take a deal over rather than try to fight! (Disclaimer: At least, they were still doing it in the ‘90s. And no, it didn’t happen to me.)
