We got a card to enter a contest to win a pickup. We walked in and all of the salesmen had white belts and shoes with plaid pants. The receptionist said she needed to write down our credit card number so they could run a credit check to see if we qualified for their offer. She and the sales offices had no computers or phones. She was writing the numbers down on paper in a spiral notebook. I showed them that I had credit cards and they could see them if I found something we wanted to buy. The offices had press board furniture with empty shelves and desks. The manager wouldn’t let us continue if we didn’t give them our credit card number and ran us out. The newspaper ran a story on the police bust of the operation. They were selling bogus travel agent certificates and got shut down.
