Seize the moment, guys! Don’t let the older ones talk. If you’re making a presentation, run it your way. Don’t give openings during the demo. Give enough technical details for them to feel stupid or to make questions out of. DON’T let them think!
When a bank I worked for was going online, ‘they’ put a freeze on network changes in the executive building. Naturally, the network went crazy the day of the demo. Since we techs were not allowed to park in the building or use a taxi, we walked the 12 blocks with our gear. Tested the network starting at the 1st floor. By the time we got to the 11th floor, we have about 20 VPs on our tails. Walked into the demo room and on the floor was a Radio Shack hub. Unplugged it and the problem went away. Walked back to the NOC, got a real hub, walked back to the demo room and plugged it in. No one knew where the Radio Shack hub had come from. Magic I guess.
This is like the 3 blind men and the elephant. This is way it’s best to give an overview instead of down-in-the-weeds briefing. I have developed training programs myself, and all management needed to know was the results, not how we got there.

Why aren’t the answers labeled W, X, Y, and Z?

The final exam sheet for the boating safety course I teach has a column “E”. None of the questions have an “E” answer..

Always remember the technical expertise level of a CEO; Do your presentation on a etch-a-sketch and hand out candy at the end…
