Transcript:
Stone Soup by Jane Eliot Val: My house is a mess...we need groceries...I can't keep UP, Rena. Rena: So, take the rest of the day off! Val: I can't do that. Rena: Sure you can! No one will notice. Val: Yes they will. Rena: Believe me, they won't. Just ask Eldon. Val: Eldon's in a meeting. There's a note on his computer. Rena: He's been "In A Meeting" for over a week, look! He sent me a postcard. Man: Where's Val? Rena: In a meeting.

My place of employment they would notice. I work in a public safety area. When workers don’t come in due to weather it is noted. I’m part time and I still have to show up. I don’t get sick leave and my hours our limited. I heard some areas are downsizing if someone gets fired or quits not filling that position.

The boss will soon figure out this ruse when everyone’s in their own “meetings” and not at his meeting. But everyone does need a sanity day every once in a while. Go for it, Val! (Eldon is pushing his luck.)

tcayer, different jobs have different requirements. Someone who’s “non-essential” on a day-to-day or hour-to-hour basis might still be vital on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis.
At my own job, if I’m gone for a day it’s no problem. If I’m gone for two or three days, I’ll have to play catch-up when I come back, but it’s no biggie. But if I’m gone for a week or more, the place falls apart unless there’s MAJOR planning for coverage. (I’m taking a three-week Australia trip in April, and my supervisor is VERY nervous; she isn’t capable of stepping into my shoes herself, and my assistant is still pretty new…)

fritzoid place I work at one part of my part time job they made sure they took care of that. But let me work on someone else’s watch out. Though what I was doing and I came up with a better way they took that and gave that to someone else. Very small occasion do I get to that particular job after working it for 8 years. Without giving to much away, I figured a better way to save on paper when e-scanning direct to someone else computer in a different dept.

Great work ethic you’re teaching your kids, Val. Don’t get upset with Holly or Alix when they slack off in school or at home!

^ Are they slacking off in school or at home to take care of the house and family?
