Some people thought Guy Gilchrist had strayed far from what Nancy was originally about, but under Jaimes it has been about nothing but basketball, which Nancy never was into before, for weeks now. If no better writer is available for the strip, maybe it’s time to simply retire it.
This is cute, but I’m not expecting any real emotional growth from the character just based on how it’s gonna have to run gag-a-day stuff forever. It’s like the emotional episodes of simpsons. Lovely but next week homer will be a moron again.
Perennial reminder to drop-ins: The internet is full of fantasy fodder. This strip is under no obligation to provide it for you. Thanks for dropping in, now off you go, and please don’t use the library computer.
Nancy’s reminiscencing reminds me of this line from The Shawshank Redemption “…But still, the place you live in is that much more gray and empty that they’re gone. I guess I just miss my friend.” – Red
In today’s panels, I really like how the coach is able to guide Nancy into self-exploration of her emotions… no matter how much Nancy does not really want to do so.

Is Esther still in the bushes, spying on Nancy?

Slowly, Nancy starts to reveal more. Remember folks, this could all take place in one day, or even afternoon.

I think that the whole basketball arc has been working towards today’s strip.
