Trump’s most trusted advisor (who he stole from Jeff Sessions), Stephen Miller, really does want to detain and lose track of the LADY LIBERTY (aka the Statue of Liberty).
Stephen Miller is viciously anti-immigrant (both legal and otherwise), and especially rabid about rejecting refugees, even though his own great grandparents came here as refugees.
He has expressly repudiated the famous poem by Emma Lazarus at its base, titled “The New Colossus,” which includes the famous phrase: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” He has repudiated it as policy and notes that it is a poem, not a law or statute. And while his statement is technically correct, it is a disgusting repudiation of American culture, tradition and values.
Stephen Miller, along with his boss, are disgusting perversions of everything that MADE AMERICAN GREAT. And even many of Miller’s own family, liberal Democrats from Santa Monica, California, have been outspoken in repudiating the shame he brings upon their family.
Wouldn’t put it past Bonespurs to let one of his buddies “salvage” her for the copper in her, just like he’s giving away all aspects of the public lands.
If Trump wins in 2020, the Statue of Liberty will be replaced by a statue of Trump. It will be twice as high, plated in gold and holding up a sign saying “ No vacancies” .
That respect the rest of the world holds for that statue is awe inspiring. Some years ago, while aboard a cruise ship leaving NY harbor, we were amazed that almost all of the cooking staff (the folks you normally never see on a cruise ship) appeared on the promenade deck and took pictures of each other with Liberty behind them.
Both Trump and Miller are driven by fear. It’s unfortunate for our country that both these fearful men were brought together in a position of ultimate power.
Yes, we are. We are still here, three million more of us voted for Hillary than Trump, and most of us don’t much like Hillary. The America the statue stood for NEVER existed. Remember, we have never been a shining example of what she represents. But, we are moving in the right direction. We still have discrimination against just about everyone who isn’t male and white, but we have improved substantially over our history and we are moving in the right direction. Trump has made those who think that direction is the wrong direction quite proud of themselves, and encouraged them to voice their opinions, which makes us look regressive. We aren’t. Trump is temporary, and once he is gone, we will continue to bumble our way toward becoming the country that the statue represents. We will never be perfect, humans aren’t. But, there are a lot more of us who want to try to be than there are Trump fans who are proud of being wrong.
Making a better life for those fleeing horror? Not on their agenda.
Keeping families together? Not on their agenda (unless they’re white).
Giving in to their base nature and treating “other” as evil? Yup: That’s the agenda… along with assuring that the excessively rich get excessively richer.
