Most bacteria is killed at a temp of 150-160 degrees or higher. Just about every dishwasher on the planet heats the water to at least that temp during the cycle.
After seeing how clogged up the filter got in the dishwasher, I rinse when I use the dishwasher. But I don’t generate enough dirty dishes to use it. [Sometimes it’s good to be the bachelor.]

There are even times I put my soiled dishes in the dishwasher without washing them beforehand.

Never made any sense to me either. I have a dishwasher but I don’t use it, I just use it for extra storage for my cup collection.

this is why I have not installed a dishwasher yet, even though there is a space fully prepared for one in my kitchen. I put the trash can there.

No chunks bigger than the holes in the pump strainer. Hot soapy water and hot air dry sanitizes and removes dog slobber.
