I once read music hath charms to sooth a savage breast. (William Congreve). He wrote that in 1697, when music choices were somewhat limited. The sheer variety of contemporary music genres would drive that savage breast to total distraction, same as trying to find acceptable sounds via car radio. I am one of those who bounce from genre to genre. So I got satellite radio and can listen to almost anything I want. With CDs, I am stuck with one genre until it is done. With the radio, if I get bored, I can go on to something different. And, yes, I also channel surf if I am on a TV. LOL (but that only happens when my husband is in the hospital/rehab or I am house sitting for someone – we don’t have a TV/cable at home)
