This is horrible, nausea inducing, tragic. This is the worst damage the place has ever sustained.
But the edifice has a history of destruction and reconstruction. Spires have come and gone before. Monumental statues have been destroyed utterly. At one time the inside of the church was so ruined as to be unusable and actually dangerous to enter. Centuries of encrusted crud have been removed… and removed again. Even today, as the news has mentioned, this disaster happened as reconstruction projects were underway.
While no one can say definitively one way or the other, I’m on the side that believes Jesus is not all that attached or impressed with the grand excesses that some of his followers have invested so much in.
I regret the damage to that great and beautiful architecture, but I can’t believe that Christ would shed a tear over a symbol of a massive authoritarian organization which misused His name in their centuries-long attempt to dominate the world, while largely ignoring the content of His humble teaching.
If there ever were such a miracle-worker as Jesus, and if he gave a rat’s ass about Notre Dame, there wouldn’t have been a fire in the first place. “Thanking God for helping you survive a tornado is like thanking a serial killer for stabbing your neighbors.” —Mrs. Betty Bowers, America’s Best Christian
I was down in Goshen tending my flock, when the spirit of the Lord came upon me and I was told to reveal that the press release will be issued soon “but no man knows the hour.” The management does tend to keep it vague, supreme beings don’t have deadline pressure.
Yuh, if Jesus was so bent out of shape about the fire, he would have stopped it before it did any damage. So he’s either uncaring or powerless. Pick one, Benson.

Jesus certainly cares about Notre Dame, but only if they get a bowl bid.

Oh, my bad. That’s not Jesus at all; it’s some blonde, blue-eyed, white guy. Aryan, by his appearance, I’m guessing.
