    Another sad reminder that nothing lasts forever.

    A work of labor, Love, devotion, and a tribute to the higher power in our lives. It took 200 hundred years to complete, in the Gothic age, the 12-13 centuries. France will rebuild, but knowing that the original timber, logs, trees, are gone, brings a new meaning to the structure! Persevere, and thrive!

    It is always sad to see the loss of something that is a symbol of what can be done when people work together for a common cause.

    We saw a beautiful church in New England succumb to fire and sent a contribution to help in its restoration. When the church was rebuilt, we were notified and went to see it … all of the grace and charm were lost in the modernization of the design. I hope that does not happen with the cathedral of Notre Dame as well.

    In highly partisan time we need symbols of the enduring good that can be accomplished when people work together.

    " …

    Construction of the cathedral took almost 200 years, almost as long as the entire gothic period, and most would agree it is one of the most important examples of the Gothic style in the world. In architectural history, the cathedral of Notre Dame was one of the first buildings that made use of the flying buttress.

    The biggest hurdle is that most of the crafts used to build the cathedral no longer exist. Stone carvers, sculptors, fine artists. . . where will we find another Michelangelo?

    Hopefully, some old master craftsmen are still around to guide the new journeymen and help plan the new structure. I heart aches. =;{

    “So horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out. Must act quickly!”

    They briefly considered it, but decided the danger of the weight of the water would do more damage.

    I stand corrected, it was the sculptures of the Twelve Apostles and four New Testament evangelists that were removed.

    I think it is god punishing the catholic church for hiding decades of priest pedophilia. I’m using evangelical logic.

    This so sad on so many levels! But thanks to a prof and his work at Notre Dame, the rebuilding will be made a bit easier…unfortunately, he died before he would know how valuable his work really would become to the world! https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/16/world/andrew-tallon-notre-dame-laser-scan-trnd/index.html
