When I was in the Army, another platoon leader had his infant son with him. As the baby dozed, Joe said" He’s checking his eyelids for pinhole leaks". Germany 1972.

Papi didn’t tell him a fib. Just gave him instructions.

afternoon nap time, you don’t have to sleep just stay put and look at your books or play in bed with your little cars.

When I hit the sack at night, I don’t specifically try to “sleep,” I try to “get some rest”. It’s my opinion (some may disagree) that people have sleep problems when they actually try to “sleep”.

That’s actually pretty clever. Well played, Sergio.

We call ’em light leaks for the alliteration factor, but same result.

My mom said this to us kids all the time growing up. Once when my mom was going to nap, my daughter asked her what she was doing and she said she was checking her eyelids for leaks. My daughter (maybe 5 or 6 at the time) took her literally (she was later diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum) and was terrified that as she got older, her own eyelids would get so thin they would tear. She didn’t tell me this until she was in her late 20s. She was so upset by our family joke and none of us knew. I felt kind of bad that she didn’t say anything so we could have told her it was a joke.

Never heard the check your eyelids for any kind of holes or light coming through – if it is dark in the room, how could any light come through as there is none there?
