Puh-leeze. It is possible to criticize Netanyahu and the harsh policies of Palestinian cruelty that have closer resemblance to Adolf Hitler than David Ben-Gurion or Golda Meir.
Many Jews, in both the U.S. and Israel, are very critical of Netanyahu and many of the same have been supportive of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s comments.
Many of the same Democrats who have called for a resolution against Congresswoman Omar have never called for a similar resolution condemning the clear racism and anti-semitism of Congressman Steve King.
The final consensus resolution condemning ALL hate speech, whether anti-semitic, Islamophobic, racist, homophobic, whatever, without singling anyone out, was a good compromise.
Questions: How much money does the United States give Israel every day? How much of that money comes back in donations to Congressional representatives to influence legislation?
Human history is full of horrors, but the Jewish people especially have endured persecution, unspeakable atrocities and outright genocide for millennia. The holocaust happened just 2 generations ago, but the lessons learnt are already being forgotten. Any special mention that is made of anti Semitic speech and actions when legislating hate crimes is fully justified and necessary. The actions of the Israeli state against the Palestinians are deplorable and must be condemned but care must be taken to distinguish the state of Israel from Jewish people.
Unfortunately, during WWII, the Jewish people in Europe were too scattered to effectively fight back. Now that many are gathered in one place and have the means to defend themselves, they are being condemned for it. They are surrounded by countries who wish they would all go home, wherever that is.
I WOULD point out to Republicans that “You CAN’T have it both ways!”, but, unfortunately, Donnie John keeps proving that, if the level of stupidity is high enough, then, “Oh, yes, you CAN!” But this works ONLY if you’re a republican – if you’re a democrat, you’re STILL SUPPOSED to act in a responsible and circumspect manner!
Will acting like the “Adult in the Room” leave the democrats less open to criticism from the Right? Of course not! Children and the childish will ALWAYS find something to whine and complain about – that’s the nature of children. It WILL however make you feel less guilty when the inevitable attacks commence.
Now ME – I don’t mind the constant whining from the Right – as a matter of fact, I find it a fairly accurate gauge on whether we’re doing thing correctly! When the whining and complaining STOPS is when I start to get worried!
Incidentally, "B-B Brain Netanyahu and his right-wing coalition, in rejecting the “two-state” solution is walking into a “nightmare”, but if they’re willing to destroy their governmental experiment in democracy, then that’s their right.
We’re allowing the ‘tag-team’ of Putin & Trump to dismantle ours, as well, so, technically, we’ve got no gripe about someone else doing the same.
Congresswoman Omar may have expressed her points “inelegantly” but they reach “anti-semitic” in no way at all!
If I state that Jared Kushner is an idiot, that’s NOT me being “anti-semitic” – his blatant stupidity has NOTHING to do with his religion.
Jesus was a Jew and a Palestinian too. I sure wish people would remember that. In my opinion, we shouldn’t side with or against Israel always. They, like we, are not always right or wrong. Politics rules there as well as everywhere else. Israel’s mistreatment of Palestine is as repulsive as the mistreatment of Israel.
