The first second I heard Jussie’s story, something seemed fishy to me. The more I heard, the more I thought so. Thing is, a falsehood of something like this hurts real victims.

So, let’s compare… Smollett: 2 0r 3 Lies, which he got caught out on, and has finished his career forever. Donald J. Trump: Over 8000 VERIFIABLE LIES, but his low-watt minions STILL shriek “Fake News” whenever they are reported.

So, WHO is doing more damage to America in the long run??

Smollett claims innocence…I’m obligated to wait for the truth to be determined by the court.

Ok, you got this one. Jussie Smollett was wrong on may levels and deserves consequences.

If true, and the evidence keeps mounting, a stupid and childish thing to do that will have serious and very adult consequences. But that’s what the law is for. Well, for most people. Some are exempt because of wealth and privilege and position.

An intellectually dishonest comparison by Mr. Breen. I am disappointed in him here.

There is a danger in defining this as the actions of an African-American or Gay person. These were the actions of an idiot and that is the only label that need apply.

Breen is trying to prove that he knows about two black writers, anyway.

Way to trivialize the greatness of two people by comparing them to a 3rd. Why even make it an “African-American” issue? No, I did NOT miss your point. I resent the way that you’re trying to make it. You could have had Mark Twain, Steven Spielberg and Smollet as “Great American” story-tellers and your point would have been just as valid.

Jussie Smollett is a small, pathetic, not-at-all-bright little narcissist. It’s an unappealing trait no matter what size. And how unfortunate to see him listed in line with the likes of Baldwin and Morrison. Not only is there no comparison, there is NO relation. WHATEVER.

What? You’re comparing a B-list actor/singer to two great writers?

Mr. Breen forced me to “google” Smollett, which, in turn, forced me to “google” “Empire” which caused me to question why anybody would accept Jussie’s statement that he was attacked by two individuals wearing M.A.G.A. baseball caps!

How in the world would ANYONE in the M.A.G.A. “crowd” have even a clue as to “who” Jussie Smollett actually was? and as it turns out, I wasn’t the only one with Questions about Jussie. His “google” revealed that he has been charged with lying to police.

And, although he’s obviously a rank amateur at it, his “lies” allow him to enter the pantheon of people like Trump, Stone and Manafort.

The problem with these situations is that if a Democrat or progressive or minority pulls a stunt like this, the press gets all over it and blows it up (and I’m not saying they shouldn’t report on it), and the perpetrator is excoriated, scolded, taken to court if he/she committed a crime, has their career ruined, and is generally punished and cast out. If a Republican or conservative does this sort of thing, and actions even more egregious and more numerous, their colleagues say “Eh, no biggie. Someone in the history of the human race did this sort of thing before, and some of them were members of groups we oppose or despise, so it’s OK.” They carry on about how the media are persecuting them, and they let the perp and his minions stay in the highest offices in the land and continue with criminal activities.

Why do you call them african americans, but the whites are not called european americans? And why don’t you call former african arabs also african americans, although they are from the continent africa? Very strange. And why link everybody with a race? These races are pure invention as there are endlessly small grades and steps between these race-related attributes. In fact, the only other western country of modern times I know of which had officially registered “race” on everybody was nazi germany. They had it between 1934 and 1945, the USA have it ever since they exist until today.

A fake story by an actor claiming to have been mugged is a major story. Now if we could only get as upset when a cop fills his arrest report with false claims that is then used in a trial of an innocent man we will be making progress. And false claims by a cop in an arrest report is far more common that an actor acting.

FWIW… The publisher of the Union Tribune issued an apology for the cartoon and included a discussion with Breen about the cartoon, what went wrong and what they learned. https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/opinion/readers-rep/sd-ed-union-tribune-cartoon-20190222-story.html

Isn’t it interesting how the Jussie Smollett story goes on and on while the Christopher Hasson story faded after one or two news cycles?
