Art is subjective. It’s like if I called someone an idiot just because they don’t understand something. I would never do that of course, nor would I classify forms of art that do not appeal to me as garbage.
I don’t think it is garbage! I actually love his artwork! If you see some is his works that are realism you would see what an unbelievable artist he truly js!
Art pricing works by auction rules. No bid means no money. One bidder sets his own price. Two nutcase bidders with more money and ego than sense can take the bidding past the horizon.
Does it make you think? Does it make you experience new emotions? Does it make you look at things differently? Does it criticize/subvert accepted ways of thinking/feeling? Does it capture emotion in ways words can’t? Does it make society at large, especially those in those in power, uncomfortable? If so, it’s art. If not, it’s either feel-good fluff, schlock, or Socialist Realism.
“Guernica” was the first work that made me believe that, sometimes, abstract art can be more powerful than realism. How can a image possible hold enough terror, loss or rage to capture the bombing of a civilian population? My God, and there are still devils walking our streets and dominating pulpits that believe that terror is a tool of statecraft. Gah! But Art is also both a tool and a weapon, for either sliding past or blowing apart a viewers defenses and delivering a message. Go Gavin!
