42 cents won’t even pay for the postage stamp on the letter.

For a while, a hospital I had used was sending me a bill for $0.00, and they didn’t stop until I sent it back – cost me a stamp!!!

Once got a check for a penny. Didn’t cash it, and got nasty letters from the insurance company because I was messing up their accounting.

After my pension was moved to a 401K, they had a small amount of money left so they gave me one share of their stock. Quite a few times I would get a dividend check for two cents from them.

By the time you consider the labor, the paper, the ink, the envelope and the stamp to mail this, it’s a waste and doesn’t even make sense. They should just apply it to the balance!

I still have a $.02 check from an insurance company in my wallet. Just in case I need to put in my 2 cents.

Don’t crow too loudly, Earl. I can guarantee that your next insurance premium will go up by that same amount.

I have a check from Walmart for a refund for an error they made. it`s for 40 cents. The last trip to their store. I tried to use it to take 40 cents off my purchase but they said that the only to use it was to cash it first and for that they charge $4.00. It probably cost them $4.00 to get it to me.They know how to to keep their profit.

I once got a check from BMI for songwriter royalties for $0.01. Yep, they mailed a check for 1 cent. I still have it somewhere.

I once received a profit-sharing check at a former job. It was for 37 cents; it was also the last profit-sharing check any employee there ever received.

Donate it to some charity. It may increase your deductions to file an itemized return and get a refund. Hopefully it is not the same $.42 you donated.

From an oil exploration company of which my wife inherited a partial share, we used to get a check for 30 or 40 cents and a big fancy annual report that had to cost several dollars each to make plus a couple dollars postage. We thought to give our share to a sibling to save them money but they said the registration change would cost us $20. It’s a weird world.

If they can add a couple of zeroes behind the 42, then it might be worthwhile.
