Once upon a time our tech manufacturing was mostly kept on our shores. We are now dependent on basically a sworn enemy, communist china. Are we that stupid? But hey, what the hell, the one percent get a greater profit from this folly. So it is okay.
I used to work for a Navy sun-sub-contractor that made tamper-proof single-mission unique self-destructing ALUs/CPUs that could not be hacked or reverse engineered. We were always under budget and ahead of schedule but were disbanded when COTS computers were approved for military use. We all thought it was a bad idea.
A sad fact is that “anything” designed by man.. can be reversed engineered and as smart as some think they are.. there are other still smarter folk. The next serious war.. will be won by the country that knows the secrets of the others.. and able to manipulate them to their advantage.
@ed man Your entire remark is nothing but propaganda spewed out by Fox News Entertainment. Come on man, can’t you actually educate yourself beyond that tripe?

To paraphrase Ben Franklin, if you prefer profit over security you deserve neither.

Read about a company which does national security work for the U.S. They refuse to buy computer technology manufactured in China for that reason.

. . . and we think that the NSA, CIA, and other military command are intrusive. They are suppose to verify this type of computer intrusion.

In fact this is old news (internet time); and the server farm where there was an issue has now passed a very thorough inspection and tests.
