I’ve always felt that if you had to ask for a raise then you either were underperforming or you were underappreciated. In either case, it might be a good time to look for a new job.
Had a co-worker who was always complaining about not getting a raise. The back shift “cleaners” (who I deny any knowledge of) jacked his desk up about a foot. He wasn’t nearly as happy about his new raise as he should have been.
