We had desks like that in my elementary school in the 60s, with the inkwell holder. No inkwells then, we used them to hold other stuff like glue bottles or tissues.
Sophomore year, two friends of mine (both hotties but potheads) would often return from lunch totally baked and then beg me for the answers in Calculus class. #Awkward
