What is it with dogs and mirrors. They see their reflection all the time but every once in a while, they forget what they look like. I think they just need the drama to shake up things a little when their bored.
One of my dogs was standing at the front door the other day waiting for me to come up and let him in. I was coming up the walk behind him when he saw my reflection in the full view storm door. He started wiggling and wagging all over at the reflection of me.
My cat made the mistake only a couple times in her long life. I think the last time, she’d gone senile. Either that or she normally didn’t notice reflections at all.

My new, baby chihuahua is the same way. We have glass doors on our entertainment center, and he ALWAYS barks at that “backwards chi-hua!” Weird pups!

Dogs don’t have the capacity to understand a reflection. If they did they would be a step closer to us.
