Another funny angle…. well, to me, anyway, but as some of you know, I’m pretty easily amused….
Unlike a lot of rerun strips, these have the original dates left on them….
This one is from March 26th 2003.
When Paige ended and rebooted the strip, a bit over a year ago, it went back to the first one in the GoComics archive, I think April 1st 2002….
but it was an arc already in progress.
“Jane’s World” had started in books and a couple of different websites…. not sure how long before that, but Paige was somewhat established, and quite an artist.
But here we have newcomer Jane, getting advice from established cartoonist Stephan Pastis.
It’s true that “Pearls Before Swine” became very popular, very fast, and Stephan’s fame was growing by March 2003….
Nonetheless, his strip was somewhat in its infancy, having started in 2000 online and on GoComics in 2001.
AFAIK, when this “Jane” strip was first published….
there was no Guard Duck yet, or Snuffles, in “Pearls”… there were a few crocodiles but not the crocs as we know them…
All the characters looked different…. and Stephan’s drawing was still crude….
I came in during the Beta Jane/Space Wars arc. At one point I went back and read it from the beginning (I thought). Since the reboot all this is new to me. I haven’t seen any of these before. Still one of my faves.

“Pastis’” recommendation is being used for the rebooted (to the head) “Alley Oop” no real story just dumb brainless “jokes” with plenty of gagging.
