I heard about the wasabi smoke alarm from the “Begin Japanology” wasabi episode on YouTube some time ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qq30ya3ui4 (25:15-26:25)

How can the deaf escape a fire while they are sneezing so hard?

What’d they say about a Japanese fire alarm?

I’m glad I wasn’t in Algeria when it was close to exam time. I wouldn’t have been able to read Ripley’s Believe

He must have been crestfallen, with that stuff all over his face and nowhere to wash.

I saw a news article about cheating. Can’t remember the country, but people climbed the sides of the building to give aid to those taking the test. I don’t know why there was no one getting them down from the building. They didn’t go into that. The crux of it was the lengths people went to, to avoid studying.

Apparently RBION thought using the letters “WTF” would be too offensive. In Algeria the letters would likely be different, anyway.

Wasabi mist?? Wow, that’ll get their attention! What about flashing lights? My mother is deaf and she once had an alarm clock that not only had something you put under the mattress to vibrate the bed, but also had flashing lights.

The sense of smell is shut down when you are asleep. That’s why there is a need for smoke alarms.

Everytime I sit down to have sushi for lunch, I get a strange feeling that I should be running for my life.

I was just coming here to ask why a deaf person can’t just tell an alarm is going off by the flashing lights then I read some comments about when someone is asleep at home. That brings to mind a question; what do deaf people do for their various alarm systems in their home (fire, burglar, carbon monoxide, etc)?
