Reminds me of a local lawsuit a few years ago. A widower tried to sue after his wife died in a car accident. He claimed that “unclear” signage was the cause of his wife driving down the wrong way of a highway exit ramp and not the fact that she was well above the legal alcohol limit. His lawsuit didn’t get very far.

Bart, driving a Hummer the wrong way at high speed down Constitution Highway. While drunk.

Puzzled over this one till I looked at the comments. Things always look obvious after you’re told the answer.

Hmmm. Yes and no. I seem to remember seeing ads in magazines 50 or so years ago showing a highway at night with all sorts of headlights and the ominous message that such-and-such a (rather high) percentage of drivers you meet after 10 pm are legally drunk. This was meant to be terrifying (for what purpose I no longer know) but the real message would have to be that “legally drunk” drivers are still pretty good drivers, since you routinely get past all these drunk drivers without incident.

I have also seen it said that most people who come a cropper while driving and drinking have a blood-alcohol level that would leave most people totally unconscious.
