I think I would have ripped (carefully) the earbuds out and then said what I wanted to say. Possibly even taken them away, along with the device he was listening to. He would get it back the next day with the knowledge that if he ever ignored me again, he would not get the earbuds and device back for a week. Happen again, not get them back for a month. One more time and he wouldn’t get it back at all (except when going out so he/I could contact each other). If he wants one, earn it. Worked for my daughter. :o) She is so much more responsive now.
