Had a co-worker that was into radio controlled airplanes. I had him convinced that I thought it would be a good idea to make scale model surface to air missiles to try and shoot them down. He kept arguing with me that people would get really mad if you shot down their plane. It was hard keeping a straight face while trying to convince him that I was serious.

This has me wondering if battlefield commanders during the Civil War should’ve come up with a different sort of artillery to shoot down balloons. They say it’s not uncommon for a bow hunter’s arrow to go straight through a deer. Perhaps a javelin-like projectile would’ve carried farther and pierced the silk more effectively.

Reminds me of an old cartoon, Larson I think, that had the unfortunately adjacent hawking group exercising their birds next to the teacup poodle club picnic.

Short-lived Olympic sports: the javelin catch.

Move the balloon event to the “harpoon testing grounds”

Now that’s a sporting event. NASCAR fans would probably pay to see this.

Amazing how a coincidence can cause so much havoc. A friend told me of a time when her employee Christmas party was given at the same place as the party of the business of her ex-husband, who was in attendance with his new wife. Although my friend just continued to enjoy the party with her co-workers, not even approaching the other group, the new wife came over and punched her! I think it’s a bad policy to have parties for 2 different businesses in the same time and place, especially a smaller place. Even if no “exes” are present, somebody on each side is bound to take a dislike about something the others side is doing! (Though hopefully with results not quite as catastrophic as today’s comic might have!)

Our local model aircraft club airfield is right next to the local gun club clay pigeon range.
