As a person who was raised in the coal culture I’m here to say you can have both coal mining and beautiful scenery. Coal is a vital natural resource that has been unfairly maligned in recent years. It’s also a very misunderstood industry due to bashing by the media and President Obama. Take a look at any reclaimed mine site and you will see useful and beautiful land used for everything from subdivisions to soccer fields to parks. Most coal communities enjoy having reclaimed sites. Coal is not the devil it’s made out to be.
There are coal mining families all over this great (again) Country of ours sleeping securely in their beds thanks to the sound and resolute actions of the US Government.

Climate control is similar to a healthful diet, i.e., moderate intake equals moderate output and thus longer life. Thoughtful activity benefits both.

Mountaintop or surface mining, ash landfills, leachate ponds, SO2 and NOx emissions, coal is not gentle on the environment.
