But…But…But… we CAN’T provide for the “General Welfare”, because some of THOSE PEOPLE might benefit, rather then just “God’s chosen people”, the RICH white, “Christian”, straight, old, male conservatives!! /s
Technically, the dam was originally going to be called “Hoover Dam” but the Depression did that in and under FDR it was renamed “Boulder Dam.” Truman restored the original name. Very decent of him.
IMHO, the context of history at the time of the Hiroshima nuclear attack has not changed right up to now. The deterrence of nuclear weapons is proven. No need for conversation. Just need to be careful about the materials needed to make one. Terrorists can have all the useless plans they can find but the materials MUST BE kept safe. If you think the world at peace mitigates nuclear weapons, you are wrong.
As a nation, we need to revisit our discussion of the neutron bomb and EMP devices. Generally, when a topic fades from the public dialogue, my first suspicion is that policymakers have, quietly, strategically, succeeded in shutting down the debate for a particular reason … a reason that often spells catastrophe for at least some sector of the population. These two things were hot topics, once, and personally, I perceive their threat as more sinister today than it was back then.
Days of thoughtful and sobering content regarding one of the easiest ways mankind can obliterate itself. A cautionary tale to be kept in mind as we suffer under a president whose mental condition is worsening by the moment. His idiotic “Space Farce – To Stupidity and Beyond” (an idea floated by fools before Trump – such as Bush the Lesser) signifies the rampant desire for a unilateral ability to unleash military strikes from weapons positioned outside the atmosphere, coupled with a greed for the billions it takes to further develop the extra-atmospheric weapons military contractors have already begun to build.
Pentagon brass may shake their heads in mock consternation at the ridiculous antics of the Trump regime, but for years, they have directed BILLIONS toward programs such as the drone shuttle X-37B, and numerous other classified launches of military equipment. The rogue state U$ is determined to violate the many UN resolutions against the weaponizing of space – even abstaining and voting AGAINST proposals to prevent a space arms race. It has already initiated an extra-atmospheric arms race with China, as easily as it violates other international anti-war resolutions, threatening the safety of the planet, and having learned NOTHING from the death, devastation and horror the atomic bomb caused for the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Aw, come on, Brian. If people have to think about that kind of stuff, who’s going to keep up with the Kardashians?
Next thing we know, people will want public education.

Speaking of keeping the conversation alive …

good strip today Mr. Carroll. Especially enjoyed Truman doing his best Major “King” Kong impersonation.

Eisenhower warned us of the ‘military-industrial complex’ back then.

Good strip, to bad people turned it into a Donny dumping party. Heaven forbid if someone should try that with Obama.
